Vassalboro, Maine Woman Says She Robbed Big Apple to Re-Pay a Drug Dealer

In the days following the robbery of the Big Apple on Elm Street in Waterville, we have since learned who police suspect committed the robbery. According to the Kennebec Journal, police say that 42-year-old, Casey Glidden, of Vassalboro was responsible for the robbery.

She has since been charged with a Class A count of robbery and a Class C count of terrorizing with a dangerous weapon. The woman, who was wearing dark clothing, allegedly approached the register at the Big Apple with a Sprite in her hand, but then pulled a knife on the cashier demanding money.

The cashier then reportedly provided $211 in cash to Glidden before she threatened to cut another customer and fled the scene in her slippers. Those slippers were later found in the parking lot by Waterville Police officers, the KJ reported.

After police took Glidden into custody, she claimed that she was forced to commit the robbery because her drug dealer held a gun to her head and said he would kill her and her child if she didn't.

Glidden's boyfriend also admitted to police that he drove her to the store, but tried to convince her not to commit the crime.

It seems like we are always reporting about robberies at the Big Apple. However, at least for today, we're not talking about the one on Stone Street in Augusta, so that's good, right? I'm not saying it's 'good' that a store was robbed, ya know?

Anyway, I digress. According to an article in this morning's Kennebec Journal, Waterville Police responded to the Big Apple location on Elm Street Wednesday night following reports of an alleged robbery.

The 911 caller reported that someone, claiming to be armed, robbed the Big Apple on Elm Street before eventually fleeing the scene prior to police arriving. Waterville police also called in a K9 unit to attempt to track the suspect.

Currently, there is no word on a suspect description or if the police department has any leads on who may have committed the alleged crime. Reporters said that a business across the street, Dominoes Pizza, had no idea that there had been a robbery across the way.
