Three people were hit by an antique auto Saturday at the start of a parade in Kennebunk.

The Names of Those Involved Have Not Been Released

Police say two of the three people suffered significant injuries to their lower extremities in the incident. The names of those involved have not been released.

Officials Say It Was a 'Total Accident'

Kennebunk Fire-Rescue Officials say the crash happened at the start of the parade formation on Water Street. The incident has been ruled a total accident involving an antique vehicle that was lining up for the parade. The vehicle reportedly lurched forward unexpectedly and crushed several people between the car and a trailer being used as a float. There were numerous children on the trailer at the time. Several children sustained bumps and bruises but none were seriously hurt. Three adults were injured, two more seriously than the third.

People At the Scene Jumped to the Aid of the Injured

Several bystanders helped Police manage the patients, including two Physicians Assistants. Kennebunk Fire-Rescue Officials offered their thanks on the department's Facebook page to everyone who helped in the incident. They wish speedy recoveries to all those involved.
