Levant Fire & Rescue Gives Local Students Hands-On Look at Emergency Services

The “Home of the Fighting 44” held its annual “Spark Pug Academy” program this week in Levant.

Local students got a hands-on look at emergency services this week during the Levant Fire Department’s annual Spark Pug Academy.

The camp wrapped up Wednesday after participants met local firefighters, explored the station, and learned more about the work first responders do in the community.

The academy was organized and led by the department’s junior firefighters to encourage interest in volunteer firefighting while strengthening relationships between local youth and first responders.

Organizers said the program gives children a chance to see how firefighters train and prepare while helping them feel more comfortable engaging with the department.

One of the final-day events at the academy was a cornhole rematch between Q106.5 and Levant Fire and Rescue.

Q106.5 was represented by Jordan Verge and Josiah Dyer, while Chief Eric Strout and Brayden Dewitt competed for Levant Fire and Rescue.
