Edgecomb Man Convicted of Murder for Death of His Girlfriend's Daughter

He was accused of killing 3-year-old Makinzlee Handrahan, who was his girlfriend's daughter.
Edgecomb, Maine, 3-Year-Old Died on Christmas Day 2022
The Lincoln County Communications Center received a 911 call from Handrahan's mother at approximately 7:37 on that Christmas morning about a child who was not breathing.
The child was transported to Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta, where she was pronounced dead.
An autopsy at the office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta determined Makinzlee died of blunt force trauma, with internal injuries, and ruled her death a homicide.

WGME-TV reports first responders found bruises all over the girl's body.
Court documents indicate that a few months before her death, Handrahan's daycare reported she had a scratch and bruises, including purple swelling under her eye.
Her mother and Witham-Jordan told the daycare providers that they were caused by a cat scratch and falling on the stairs.
During the trial, the state claimed Witham-Jordan was agitated because the child had been sick around the holiday and he needed drugs to get high.
Maine Man Convicted of Murder for Child's Death After Mistrial
This was Witham-Jordan's second trial for depraved indifference murder.
In the 2024 trial, Handrahan's mother cried out at Witham-Jordan, "What did you do to my baby," after being shown her daughter's battered body.
The judge declared a mistrial.
Witham-Jordan will be sentenced at a later date.
