Maine lawmakers have passed a new state budget that includes $300 relief checks for about half a million residents.
With approximately 514,000 Mainers expected to qualify based on income eligibility, the payments will be funded using money from the state’s budget stabilization fund, often referred to as the ‘rainy day fund.’

To qualify for the relief checks, individual earners must make less than $50,000 a year, heads of household must earn under $75,000, and married couples filing jointly must make less than $100,000 annually.
Gov. Janet Mills said in January that the checks are meant to help offset, in some small way, the rising cost of goods and groceries due to tariffs and other factors beyond the state’s control.
According to the Department of Administrative and Financial Services, relief checks will automatically be mailed to eligible Maine taxpayers who filed their 2025 tax return.
With the budget expected to take effect about 90 days after legislative adjournment—around July 15th—the checks are anticipated to be sent out shortly after that.

And there you have it! These checks are expected to be sent to over half a million Mainers, with the earliest possible delivery date set for July.
