A popular former Boston radio host didn’t exactly have the vacation he was hoping for recently. Let’s just say it was a bit of a crash and burn.

I’m sure many of you sports fans out there remember the name Mike Mutnansky. Better known as “Mut,” he was a fixture on Sportsradio WEEI for nearly two decades.

Mike Mutnanksy Has Been a Fixture in Boston Sports Media for Years

More recently, Mut has been the host of the critically acclaimed Sportsbook Live show, which broadcasts from Mohegan Sun during the NFL season.

Mut also holds a regular spot on The Kirk Minihane Show, a podcast produced by Barstool Sports. He was just about to compete in a huge Barstool Sports basketball game, pitting Minihane’s team against a squad of other Barstool employees semi-led by El Pres himself, Dave Portnoy.

However, it wasn’t meant to be.

During a recent appearance on Kirk's show, it came to light that Mut had a bit of an accident while on vacation in Southern Maine—an accident that has left him in no condition to hit the hardwood. As Bruce Springsteen once said:

"I seen a young man lying by the side of the road
He cried, 'Mister, won't you help me please?'"

Mike Mutnanksy Ended up in a Serious Incident in Wells, Maine

According to Mut, he was jogging down a road in Wells, heading to a coffee shop he wanted to try after reading some glowing reviews.

While running, Mut approached the driveway of a church. It was a Sunday, and Mass was just about to begin. As he prepared to cross the driveway, he noticed a car getting ready to turn in. Believing he had been given the "go-ahead" by the driver, he started to jog across the entrance.

Unfortunately, the car didn’t stop and careened right into the popular radio personality.

Thankfully, the injuries aren’t too serious. But as Mut wrote in his weekly newsletter, The Mutstack, he will sadly be missing the big Barstool game—a game in which he had truly hoped to be the hero for Team Minihane.

This is certainly difficult news for Mut, and it's unfortunate that it sounds like it was a Maine driver who wiped him out. However, I hope the Mut Man knows he has a lot of support up here and is always welcome.

Just watch out for those Maine drivers, my man, there's a reason they call us Maineiacs.
