15 Years Ago: Relive the Night Alice In Chains Finally Returned to Portland, Maine
Fifteen years ago, on April 15, 2010. It was a first night of a new leg of the big reunion tour. Alice In Chains made a triumphant return to Portland, Maine, performing at the Cumberland County Civic Center, now known as the Cross Insurance Arena. This marked their first performance in Maine nearly two decades and was part of their tour supporting the album "Black Gives Way to Blue," their first studio release in 14 years.
The setlist that night was a well-crafted blend of classic hits and new material, showcasing the band's evolution while honoring those 90's Seattle roots. They also incorporated in some deep cuts like "God Am" and "Sickman"
The energy in the venue was electric, with a packed house of enthusiastic fans eager to witness the band's resurgence. The addition of lead vocalist William DuVall was met with open arms; his performance complemented Jerry Cantrell's harmonies perfectly, breathing new life into the band's signature sound.
Shoutout to YouTuber Bigfoot for capturing and posting some of the night.
Throughout the night, the band paid homage to their late frontman, Layne Staley, with heartfelt renditions of songs like "Nutshell," creating poignant moments that resonated deeply with the audience. The concert not only celebrated Alice In Chains' storied past but also a promising new chapter, leaving fans in Portland fired up.
