
28-Year-Old Bangor Woman Is Dead Following Crash In Levant Wednesday Afternoon
The Penobscot County Sheriff's Office is looking into what happened Wednesday afternoon that caused a driver from Bangor to leave the roadway and hit a tree, ultimately resulting in the woman's death.
According to Penobscot County Sheriff Troy Morton, the incident took place just before 4:30 PM on Wednesday, near the cross section of Route 222 (Union Street), Stetson Road East in Levant, according to witnesses.

"The crash was reported to have occurred in front of Ollie's Market. Witnesses indicated a lone vehicle had struck a tree head-on. When first responders arrived on the scene, they immediately rendered aid to the driver, identified as 28-year-old Libby Toothaker of Bangor, Maine. Levant Fire and Rescue transported Toothaker to Northern Light Medical Center in Bangor, where Toothaker later passed away due to the injuries sustained during the accident. "
A reconstruction team from the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office, assisted by local fire and EMS, were in the area for quite some time Wednesday evening, reconstructing the crash.

There is no word yet on what authorites believe to be the reason for the crash.
According to the Maine Department of Transportation, there were 157 fatalities on Maine roadways last year.
The one marks one of the first for 2026.
Just last month, Fox22 Bangor reported that a person flipped their Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, on the Mudgett Road in Levant, leaving the roadway and hitting a tree. That person was taken to the hospital with non-lifethreatening injuries.
