I lived in Westbrook for 8 years, and never saw an ice disk.

What a raw deal. Why even live there if you can't see an ice disk, amirite?! It's true, I lived almost across the street from where they've formed a few times over the last few years. Must be global warming... But my wife showed me a picture a friend of hers took at a small pond in Plymouth.

It's a hole in the ice, maybe a couple of yards wide, but it is perfectly round. So naturally, I'm looking at it, and I immediately thought it had to be aliens, because what earthly explanation could there possibly be for a circle of near-perfect geometry. It's like a porthole to another dimension. Or a sunken beaver dam, who knows...

Maybe it used to have an ice disk in it?

Maybe some ice broke, and the wind blew it in circles like a frosty carousel, and then the centerpiece melted. We have had some unseasonably warm weather. Off and on, at least.

One thing to keep in mind is this isn't in a place you're going to get to easily. In fact, you won't get there without permission, as it's on private property. But luckily, my wife is connected to all the cool people who are allowed to do cool things and take cool pictures of portals into the UpsideDown.

You know, that Westbrook ice disk is impressive in its size, but it's just a floating hunk of ice. This has finesse. It has style. It also sits over about half a dozen feet of water. But what it lacks in aquatic magnitude, it makes up for in just being another awesome little sight that can be found out in the good old Maine woods. Or dog pond. Whatever.
