Maine's most populace city made the list of the nation's most healthies cities in the nation.

In a list created by Wallethub, Portland, Maine was listed as the 9th healthiest city in the nation.

The list was created using information from 182 cities across the United States using four core components that include green spaces, food, fitness and health care. From there 44 categories were analyzed to provide a more accurate and narrow scope on how each city lived and had opportunity for a healthy lifestyle.  These metrics included family doctors per capita, farmers markets per capita, fitness and instruction centers per capita, and walking trails per capita.  Using the full 44 categories each of the 182 earned a score that put them somewhere on the list.

The top cities on the list included:

  2. Seattle, Washington
  3. Portland, Oregon
  4. San Diego, California
  5. Honolulu, Hawaii
  6. Washington, D.C.
  7. Austin, Texas
  8. Irvine, California
  9. Portland, Maine
  10. Denver, Colorado

Also mentioned in the report was how Portland adults are good at eating their fruits and vegetables.  Portland, Maine was listed as the third best in the nation when it came to the percentage of adults who ate these healthy foods, beat only by two other New England U.S. cities that tied for first place, Burlington, Vermont and South Burlington Vermont.

Lewiston also made in the report as one of the top places that had a 'lowest average monthly cost of fitness-club membership'.  It tied for #1 in the nation in this category with Glendale, Arizona.
