I am sure somewhere in your travels you have seen some of the Maine DOT's stabs at humor.  Did you laugh? did You roll your eyes? Think you can do better? Well here is your chance.

Through Sunday March 18th the Maine DOT is giving you the opportunity to flex your smart aleck muscle for fun and prizes. They call it the My Maine Sign Contest.

Some of their prizes include:

  • A ride to the top of the Penobscot Narrows Observatory
  • Tickets from the Maine State Ferry Service
  • A pass to one of the Maine State Parks or a pass to the Maine Wildlife Park in Gray!
  • And of course the GLORY of having your words in neon lights (Well...LED lights actually)! Thousands of motorists will have a happier and safer commute thanks to you! Just think of the karma!

Remember, spaces count towards the character limit.

Small Sign: You can have up to a 2 "page" message. Each page is limited to 3 lines of 8 or less characters per line.

Large Sign: One page message with 3 lines of 16 or less characters per line.

DOT suggested safety themes:

  • Distracted Driving
  • Impaired Driving
    (i.e. drugs, alcohol, drowsy driving)
  • Seatbelts
  • Speeding
  • General Safety
    (i.e. secure your load & other misc. items)
  • Wildlife
  • Winter Driving
  • Events
    (i.e. holidays, sporting events, movies)
