It seems every other month, there's a new update about the Real ID law. My whole family has been going bananas the last few weeks trying to get passports together so they can fearlessly take a trip to NYC at the end of the year. And with all the indecision about becoming compliant, they wanted to be prepared for the worst.

But, Maine has been granted a final waiver from the Department of Homeland Security, which will keep us getting on planes with no trouble until October 1st of 2020, according to a post from WGME. Mainers can do all the travelling they want for the time being, with the same ID they've had in their pocket all this time.

We will need to fall in line come 2020, but for now, we can breathe a sigh of relief, and hop on whatever plane, train, or federal building we need to. I'm sure there will be all sorts of drama when it comes around again, but maybe by then our state and federal government can come to some sort of agreement to keep Mainers on the move!
