I made my own design for the new state flag...

I never actually sent it in, because my design was for a mythical creature named Pine Tree Rex. It was an abominable pine tree with vicious incisors, ready to do harm on neighboring states. It was all in good fun, and I enjoyed posting it on Facebook to see what other people thought. They all thought it was stupid too. Check it out...

But one could argue, the whole design contest was built to be kind of stupid. After all, some of the rules were things like, the design must be so simple "a child could draw it from memory". Not only that, all the parameters set forth, basically ensured that the new design look like some version of the highly controversial pine tree design anyway.

Some people took the contest really seriously. Others, not so much.

You might think my above design would be the silliest one of all, but not even close. Some people made scribbles. Others made what looked like "Welcome to Maine" starter packs. While some took it very seriously, I think we can all agree the funny ones are kind of the best. Like, who wouldn't want Chuck Norris on there?

Even my Pine Tree Rex wasn't alone. there was some kind of Lobsteroid looking creature that seemed poised to attack anyone in its way. So obviously having an Attack Lobster seemed reasonable.

There were a lot of submissions that didn't make it, that were awesome.

And I don't mean in a humorous manner either. Some of the rejected designs could've easily been the winner. Others were pretty plain. And of course, there were some angry people who don't want a new flag at all, and simply submitted the current design of the Maine flag.

Either way, it's kind of a done deal. Unless something crazy happens. But Mainers will have their say in November. But again, some of these are hilarious, and others are dead serious. Either way, it's a whole lot of Maine in here. No matter what you think about either design, it's obvious a lot of people care about Maine.

I wonder how many of these aren't even in Maine at all. No fair!
