When Do Political Signs Need to be Removed By, in Maine?
For real, this doesn't have anything directly to do with politics.
I've always tried to approach people for who they present themselves to be, not necessarily who they care about politically. Sure, there's exceptions to every rule, but since I absolutely detest politics in all forms, I don't care what you do with your vote. But I do care about all the eyesores that I can't wait to not see for a while.

If there's one thing I will always speak out against, it's the obscene amount of advertising that goes into any election. Whether is the unending commercials, or all the media coverage, I can't stand it. But even worse, is all the signs everywhere. It literally doesn't matter which candidate you're talking about, they're all useless trash, that I'll be so happy to see lining the sides of dumpsters instead of the sides of the road.
That said, when do all the signs have to be gone?
Sadly, not nearly as quickly as any of us would like. Granted, some people left up their signs from 2020 for the last 4 years. Why, I don't know. But what you choose to do on your own property is up to you. If you want to leave one up for the rest of your life, you can. It's a different story on public property.
Maine law says that signs like these can be displayed for up to 12 weeks a year, but not exactly consecutively. You can put them in public spaces for six weeks from January 1st, until June 30th. Then you can do it again for six weeks from July 1st, until December 31st. I suppose you could do that back to back...
Are there fines or anything?
I thought I read somewhere once, that there was some kind of fine for not removing the signs. But per state law, if someone put one up yesterday, they'd basically have until Christmas to get rid of it. I can't find anything that implies there's a specific fine. Maybe it's up to the town it's in. There are definite laws against tampering with them, otherwise.

Again, I really don't care who's name is on the sign. I just want them all gone. Maine has laws against billboards for a reason. While this is not the same, the signs are still an eyesore, that I can't wait to be rid of. Besides, I need to get busy hating/complaining about snow. We need to make more room for snow to complain about.
