Bangor Teacher One Of The Finalists For Maine Teacher Of The Year Finalists 2024

Four women, one from Cumberland, Lincoln, Sagadahoc, and Penobscot Counties, are the last four finalists for Maine Teacher Of The Year.

Allyson Gilbert is a Science Teacher at Mt. Ararat High School in Topsham.

Becky Hallowell is a fourth-grade teacher from Wiscasset Elementary School.

Katie Strait is a science teacher at Baxter Academy for Science and Technology in  Portland.

And Emilie Throckmorton is an English teacher at Bangor High School.

Each teacher was selected from a pool of over 600 community-nominated teachers from each of the 16 counties to be a finalist for the 2024 Maine County Teachers of the Year.

“Allyson, Becky, Katie, and Emilie are extraordinary educators who care deeply about their students, schools, and communities. They lift up everyone around them, are passionate about their profession, and are true champions of all students and schools in Maine. These four finalists represent the best qualities of Maine’s amazing educators, and I congratulate them on this well-deserved honor,” said Maine Education Commissioner Pender Makin.

The State Finalist will be chosen from these four finalists, and according to the Maine Department of Education, the winner of the 2025 Teacher of the Year will be announced in October.

"Maine’s Teacher of the Year serves as an advocate for the teaching profession, Maine schools, and students, and represents Maine in the National Teacher of the Year program."
