It’s ‘Unclaimed Property Week’ In Maine. Did You Claim Yours Yet?
Unclaimed property in Maine is a real thing.
The first time I ever heard about it, and we've definitely told you about it before, my wife and I both put our info into the search bar, and BOOM! We both got some money back. I think I got back like, $25 for an old phone bill I overpaid, but my wife got back almost $200 from an old overpaid electric bill from a multi-roommate situation.
So really, you'd be foolish not to check. I'm not saying that you'll get rich or anything, but I've heard plenty of stories over the years from people who got a couple of thousand bucks. Maybe you missed an old state tax refund or something like that. Maybe an old landlord lost your address to send back your security deposit.
There's so much in the state's coffers, they made it a weeklong event.
According to Fox ABC Maine, the state is sitting on nearly $300 million in unclaimed property. And remember, by "property," we're talking money. Uncle Jebediah, that you never met, didn't leave you a farmstead. But he may have left you some money in a will you never knew about. Get the idea? So, Gov. Mills made an event out of it. Why not?
Again, most people are only gonna get a few bucks, but they make it so gosh-darned easy to get it back, it's worth it. this is one of those rare cases where it sounds like it's almost too good to be true, but it actually is true. My wife and I are living proof. You're not gonna get rich, but with the cost of living up so high, every little bit helps, right?
If you're ready to start taking the steps to get back what you might be owed by whomever, all you have to do is follow this link right to the state's website. It's your money, so go get it.
