Maine: Are There More Weed Stores than Places for Fast Food?

Cheech & Chong just opened a weed store in Maine...

It almost seems like we don't even live in a real world anymore. 30 years ago, I remember you'd have conversations with old hippies who'd talk about how one day "it'll all be legal, man...", but even then, I never thought it'd be like it is today. Way more than half the states are on board with medical cannabis, and almost half the country has approved it recreationally in some manner.

But never did I think it would be at a point where you'd see a ton of competing cannabis dispensaries in the same city. Or hear commercials for weed stores on the radio. I never thought I'd live to see a time when weed basically became an everyday commodity like any other profitable item. But here we are.

Google provided me with some interesting answers to an odd question.

We've all seen enough Cheech & Chong movies, that we all know what munchies are. So maybe it would make sense that you could draw a straight line in commerce, from weed to fast food. But which offers you more opportunities to buy their products? Surely, there must be more places to eat, than to buy weed, right?

Not so fast, buddy. Now let's take fast food outliers out of the conversation. We'll just focus on McDonald's and Burger King, who are obviously the fast food giants of the world. Likely the Coke and Pepsi of fries, if you will. Statewide, there are 61 McDonald's locations, and 17 Burger King spots. So 78 locations between the two.

So how many places are there to purchase cannabis, you ask?

There are currently 139 active locations to purchase marijuana. So in basic terms, there are twice as many spots to buy weed as their are to get a Big Mac or a Whopper. combined. Granted, one often leads to the other, as we've established. But two to one? That seems nuts. It's hard to say which is more profitable...

Well, probably not, but I'm not a money guy. We'll try that conversation another time. But chances are, if you're driving around looking to get your weed fix, and a fast food fix, you'll probably have an easier time finding weed, than a Big Mac.
