Another $1 an hour means more cash for workers and a bigger payroll for Maine's employers.

Beginning January 1st of this coming year, the hourly minimum wage will increase from $11 an hour to $12 an hour, which of course means another $40 per week for those working a 40 hour workweek.

The minimum salary for exemption to overtime will also increase from $33,000 per year to $36,000. This means that for most workers that earn under $36,000 per year that your employer will have to cough up overtime pay if you work more than 40 in any given week.

Enjoy the raise, and we're sure that you'll end up spending it all in one place.
