A man crashed the stolen vehicle he was driving on Monday, after a high speed chase with police.

Officers began pursuing the stolen SUV on Route 2 in Hermon late Monday afternoon, but backed off once the driver crossed into Bangor while driving erratically. Bangor Police told WABI-TV that the driver clipped at least two other vehicles on Maine Avenue before spinning out of control and hitting a tree.

First responders had to extricate the driver from the vehicle before being transporting him to the hospital. His name and the extent of his injuries have not been released.

This crash remains under investigation.

We'll update this story as more details become available.
