The old Miller Drug Pharmacy location on the corner of State Street and Palm Street had served the community as a drugstore for over 60 years. Owned by a local family, the Millers, the building had become known as something as a landmark over the years.

In 2018, Northern Light Healthcare absorbed the pharmacy and then ultimately purchased a property further down the road at 364 State Street and built a brand new facility, leaving the property at 200 State Street vacant.

According to the City of Bangor, the property is valued at about 485-thousand dollars, and is zoned as a retail space.

Last fall, the Bangor Daily News reported that Brett Soucy, the owner of Frank's Bakery, which sits right across the street from the building, had been looking to buy the building for several years. Soucy finally purchased the property from the Miller family in 2025. As soon as it was in their possession, they started to renovate the space.

"With the sale finalized, construction and changes to the building will take six to 12 months before it’s used.

The final product will be mixed-use with commercial spaces and apartments, Soucy said. There is no set amount of spaces that will be available for rent because plans haven’t been decided on yet, Soucy said."

Well, it's been about a year, and the renovations look like they're coming along nicely.

David Warren, Communications Manager for the City of Bangor, says the space, which actually consists of two separate buildings on the property (one you can see from State St. and another smaller one which sits behind the main structure) is going to be used for a couple of different things.

"There will be two residential units in that rear building and another six in the larger one. And then there will be some sort of commercial/retail business occupying some of the first-floor space in the larger building. Not sure when it will be move-in ready, but I believe they've already done much of the work."
