Forecasters are calling for more much needed rain Tuesday, with more expected late week.

The National Weather Service is calling for rain this week. Steady rain is expected Tuesday afternoon into the overnight hours. Much of Maine is expected to see more than an inch of rain. The Bangor area could receive as much as an inch, to an inch-and-a half of rainfall, with Downeast areas seeing as much as two inches of rain.

More rain is expected Friday, with breezy conditions.

The rain is much needed for Maine and much of New England overall. According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, the entire state is experiencing varying drought conditions. Much of Maine is experiencing "Severe" drought conditions.

Three portions of the state are currently listed under "Extreme Drought." Those areas include a section of Aroostook County, extending to far north-eastern Penobscot County. Another area covers the southern tip of Maine, extending north to the Portland area. A new area of "Extreme Drought" has since developed in a large portion of Somerset County.
