Popular Animal Exhibition Moving To Permanent Location In Poland, Maine
Popular animal educator, rescuer, and exhibitionist, Drew Desjardins of the popular "Mr. Drew and His Animals Too," has had quite the wild ride over the last month. He was informed at the beginning of April that the space he had called home for several years, a storefront inside the Lewiston mall, was closing, and he and his animals had until the end of July to find new digs.
At that point, he and his team and supporters sprang into action and started to look for places big enough to suit the needs of this ever-growing program.
After a month's worth of work to get all their ducks in a row, it appears Mr. Drew has settled on a new spot in the old Family Dollar building off of Route 26 in Poland, Maine.
He announced the good news on social media on Friday.
"We found a free-standing 10K sq.ft. space that will be perfect for our needs with some potential, limited outside use...We will now have a separate space for retail with its own separate entrance, there will now be two party spaces available (one private and one semi private), we will be able to set up our kiln and lapidary machine (in the back room) for use on special events, the new marine touch tank will be up and running when we open, a planting/growing area, we will be able to to host outside movie nights, night time astronomy observation and so much more! We are excited to collaborate with the area businesses."
Desjardins says he is excited to be working with the town, which he says has been enthusiastic about the idea of him setting up shop in the new location, as they see the potential draw a business like this could bring to the area.
He says he's just waiting to make things official and get the keys to the space before organizing what will be a grand effort to move all his animals to the new space.

In other good news, Mr. Drew and His Animals Too was recently awarded a Bangor Savings Bank "Community Matters More" grant after being chosen as a "write-in winner" of $1000.
