According to authorities, the incident was reported to State Troopers just after 3 PM Monday. It took place near mile marker 123, as the vehicles were traveling north.
Authorities say it all started when drivers started to slow down to make room for a state trooper who had someone pulled over.
"A 2004 Dodge Ram being operated by 58-year-old Derrick Forbes of Brewer was unable to avoid the slowed traffic and struck the rear of a 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander. As a result of the rear-end crash, Forbes’s pickup truck sideswiped a 2011 Honda Pilot, followed by an additional sideswipe of a 2017 Toyota Tundra."
First responders from the Kennebec County Sheriff's Office, the Sidney Fire Department and Delta Ambulance were called in to assist Troopers from Troop I and the Maine State Police Traffic Safety Unit in their investigation and to triage the injured.
"The driver and passenger in the Outlander were transported to Maine General Medical Center in Augusta with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Honda Pilot was transported to Thayer Hospital in Waterville with non-life-threatening injuries."
As you can imagine, the crashes left the roadway full of debris, so both lanes of travel were temporarily shut down so crews from Dostie's and Ready Road Towing could safely clear the area.
