Here Are The 10 Safest Cities In Maine

When my wife and I were looking to buy a new house, we were fairly flexible on where it was. Admittedly, for nostalgic reasons, I was really hoping we'd end up in Hampden. It's where I went to high school, and it's a nice little small town that lets you feel all country, while being so close to Bangor. And as luck would have it, we landed in Hampden.

But I had no idea that our choice to move there, that we would end up in one of the safest cities in all of Maine. According to SafeWise.com, Hampden is the second safest city in Maine, right behind Cumberland. The criteria to arrive at these findings were based on population, income, property crime, and violent crime. Here's a few of the statistics:

Two cities (Hampden and Cumberland) reported no violent crimes in 2017.
There were no murders reported among the safest cities and only one city reported a robbery.
Digital security is Maine’s top concern on our State of Safety study, and the number of folks who experienced digital security issues in the past year is on par with the national average at 24%.

By way of comparison to some of the surrounding cities, Bangor came in at #39, Brewer came in at #22, and Belfast was #10. So this area didn't fare too badly. But I have to say, I'm going to take that little statistic to the bank. My little hometown is almost as safe as it gets here in the Pine Tree State. I know I'll sleep a bit easier tonight.
