The Local, your local neighborhood marketplace, has opened in Orono.

The location is 153 Park Street in Orono. The store used to be occupied by Thriftway.

But since they left, the interior has been totally renovated. And the building is going through some exterior renovation, and the apartments and laundromat next door are being renovated now as well.

The building is owned by the owner of neighbor Orono House Of Pizza or OHOP

The Local Market is co-owned by Lance Cowan, and he is ...

Excited to provide a local neighborhood market for Orono and is looking forward to serving the community and the closeby students.

The Local has been open, quietly, for the past few weeks. And will add Bill’s Bagels to the store very soon. Bill’s Bagels has been selling at farmer’s markets and will be a fixture in the store, making and selling bagels.

"Born out of a pandemic pregnancy craving, Bill’s Bagels is a family business making traditional bagels; cold rise dough, hand formed, boiled then baked."

Nothing like the smell of freshly made bagels, coming within weeks to The Local.
