Newburgh Woman Charged With Heroin Trafficking

A woman from Newburgh faces charges for her alleged role in a drug distribution ring that police say a supplied a significant source of heroin for Hancock and Penobscot Counties.

Shailene Chapman, 30, was arrested Thursday evening following a traffic stop on I-95 North near Newport.

Chapman had been the subject of a several month investigation by MDEA for her suspected role in the importation of heroin from out of state for re-sale throughout Hancock and Penobscot Count, according to police.

Police received information Chapman was returning to Maine from New York in a rental car. Police stopped the vehicle and a police dog helped officers locate a half-pound of heroin hidden inside. The heroin seized represents about 2,000 dosage units and has an estimated street value of approximately $42,000, police said.

Chapman has been charged with Class “A” Aggravated Trafficking is Schedule W Drugs (heroin). This charge was aggravated due to the quantity of heroin seized.
Chapman was transported to the Penobscot County Jail where bail has been set at $10,000 cash.
