Since opening in the fall of 2009, Ipanema Bar & Grill has been a fixture in the downtown Bangor area. Nestled in between Mexicali Blues and Blaze at 10 Broad Street, Ipanema and its upstairs counterpart, The Reverand Noble Pub, have both been destinations for those who come to Bangor hungry and thirst for tasty treats.

But folks on the lookout for food and beverages will find those in the same spot, but under a different name now.

On August 20th, the folks at Ipanema Bar & Grill made an announcement via social media, that they were going to be changing things up a bit.

"Coming soon!! We are in the process of rebranding! We have had amazing days as Ipanema but we are moving on to lazy hound."

The rebranding kicked off at the beginning of September when the exterior was repainted a vibrant blue color, and the signage was changed over from "Ipanema" to "The Lazy Hound."

Karyn Young, who had previously worked at the Whig and Courier (now Blaze) co-owns the restaurant with Alyssa Snow. Young says the change has been a long time coming.

"We have been talking about changing the name for quite some time. I worked as a bartender/manager for years before I became an owner. After the pandemic, we definitely had to switch gears drastically. We were more of a late-night spot. We decided we enjoyed the new direction we were going. Ipanema was such a popular spot but the name no longer fit what we wanted to be doing. We knew we really needed a rebrand. It took a little longer than we hoped but we are very pleased with the results. We played around with the name a bit and finally settled on Lazy Hound. We went with a fun dog theme decor."

"Honestly I'm a huge dog lover and although we played around with many names this seemed to fit our vibe the best."

Young says they've changed up their menu a bit, too.

"Our offerings include authentic Philly cheesesteaks, we use amoroso rolls which is the original roll the cheesesteak started on in Philadelphia, fresh never frozen handmade smash burgers, a variety of naan breadsticks, colossal salads, homemade dips and sauces, and much more. We have weekly specials which always include a specialty egg roll of the week. We make fresh purees daily for margaritas and Moscow mules. Aside from a few minor details to the interior, we are only waiting on the production of our sign to be completed."

Young says their hours have changed a little, too.

"Our current hours are Tuesday 4:30 -9 [and] Wednesday -Saturday 4:30 -10. We may look to expand hours later down the road to some lunches or even an additional day of the week."

To take a look at their menu or find out more, you can check out the Lazy Hound's new website, too, or follow them on Facebook.

As for what used to be the Reverand Noble Pub upstairs. Young says "The upstairs is currently closed as it does need some renovations. I don't have a timeline for that right now."
