Plan To Drive Through Old Town Next Week? Keep An Eye Out For This Nighttime Detour!
If your evening commute takes you through Old Town and over the Llewllyn Estes Bridge, you're going to want to make alternate plans next week.
The Maine Department of Transportation has a plan to close the bridge for winter maintenance, starting Monday.

Maine DOT gave motorists a heads-up, via Facebook, that a detour would be coming and to plan commutes accordingly.
"Stillwater Avenue in Old Town will experience overnight closures between November 9 and November 13, from 8 PM to 5 AM...Message boards will provide advanced notice to drivers, and there will be a signed detour route for the closure. The road will be blocked for through traffic during this time."
The traffic that normally travels over the bridge in Old Town will be detoured down College Avenue in Orono to Main Street and up Bennoch Road instead, adding at least 10 minutes to anyone's drive.

According to the Maine DOT website, this bridge replacement work has been underway for several years and is part of a multi-tiered construction project aimed at improving several roads in that area of town.
"In early 2022, MaineDOT advertised this bridge replacement project for construction bids. The bridge work was bundled with plans to improve the Bennoch Road (Route 16) and College Avenue (Route 2A) intersections. "
Contractors Reed & Reed, Inc., out of Woolwich, will be closing the bridge to prepare the temporary bridge for the upcoming winter season.
