Police have identified the person killed in a collision between a tractor trailer and a passenger vehicle in Southern Maine as the 70-year-old truck's driver.

Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland says the accident was reported at about 10:15 Saturday morning on I-295 near the Freeport exit. A tanker truck carrying milk and a Toyota sedan collided. The tanker ended up overturned in the median. According to the BDN, the tanker truck's driver, 70-year-old Richard Clark of Canaan, died in the crash when he swerved into the guardrail to avoid crushing the car. Thousands of gallons of milk spilled from the truck, with much of it freezing on the road.

Investigators are still trying to determine what caused 27-year-old Ashley Williams of Woolwich to lose control of her Corolla. Anyone who witnessed the accident is asked to call the State Police in Gray at 657-3030.
