Police have identified the Bangor man who died in a car accident on I-95 Saturday morning.

The crash happened just before 9:30 a.m., near exit 186, Stillwater Avenue in Bangor.

James Rice, 38, of Bangor was driving a silver 2005 BMW north on I-95 in Bangor, when he left the interstate at Exit 186, police said. Rice's vehicle failed to negotiate the right-hand curve and traveled off the roadway and down an embankment. The vehicle stopped when it struck a tree on the driver's side door area of the car. Rice, who was wearing a seatbelt, died of his injuries. There were no other occupants in the car.

Police are now investigating to determine what caused the vehicle to leave the road. Maine State Police were assisted at the scene by the Bangor Fire Department.
