Police Presence Planned At Local Ice Arena ‘Frozen Friday’ Events
It seems like a case of a few bad apples ruining the bunch.
Management from the Penobscot Ice Arena, located at 90 Acme Rd. in Brewer, took to social media this week to warn parents that some changes will be coming to a popular Friday program the rink has been hosting for years.
"ATTENTION: DUE TO PROBLEMS/BREAKING RINK RULES/ FIGHTING, ETC. THAT HAVE REOCCURRED AT OUR POPULAR FROZEN FRIDAY LIGHT SKATE, WE HAVE NOW HAD TO ASK FOR POLICE [PRESENCE] DURING THIS SKATE."
The post goes on to say that more staff had been added initially, with the hopes to catch the people involved in causing the issues and keep the situation in hand. It looked as though things had settled down for a while, but they eventually had other incidents pop up, and have now decided to involve law enforcement.
According to comments in the post, the issues seem to involve a handful of kids who have been allegedly staging fights and posting them online.
It's clear, from the post, that management hopes the presence of law enforcement on site will lead to the end of the problematic situation.
Rink management says if things don't improve, they will have to take even more drastic steps to fix the problem, as their first commitment is to make the events as safe as can be for everyone involved.
"IF WE CONTINUE HAVING ISSUES, WE WILL BE IN A POSITION OF HAVING ANYONE UNDER 15 ACCOMPANIED BY A PARENT, OR CAPPING THE EVENT AND PURCHASING TICKETS ONLINE, OR SHUTTING IT DOWN ALTOGETHER. WE SINCERELY HOPE IT DOESN’T COME TO THAT."
