The nominees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame class of 2019 have been announced, offering at least the hope of induction for Def Leppard, Stevie Nicks and over a dozen other artists. Sadly, this also ensures another year of bitter disappointment for fans of many other major acts – including the 19 most glaringly snubbed artists listed below.

Classic rock acts such as Yes, the Moody Blues and the Cars got their long-overdue nods last year, but fellow long-running bands such as the Scorpions and the Doobie Brothers are still waiting to be allowed into rock's Cooperstown. While strong cases can be made for dozens of acts, in the Rock Hall of Fame snubs gallery below we've focused on the artists who've had the strongest influence on future generations of musicians.

(We'd also like to take this chance to remind you that the only Rock and Roll Hall of Fame that really matters can be found within your record collection, in the desk drawer where you keep all your ticket stubs, and in that closet full of "totally worn out but I'm never throwing it away" concert T-shirts. In other words, don't get too upset over which artists one self-appointed group of curators declare to be worthy or not worthy of their praise.)
