Update: Route 1 In Hancock Closed After Truck Carrying Mobile Home Loses Load

Update (as of 4/07/22 @ 6:45 PM) Route 1 in Hancock is open again. In a statement released by the Maine State Police, they said the accident took place just before noon on Thursday: 

"...A wide load was being escorted from South Paris to Lubec. As the vehicle was traveling east on Route 1 and was approaching the Sullivan bridge. There was a van crossing the bridge in the oncoming westbound lane. The driver of the wide load applied brakes as the van approached, causing the load to shift and the tractor skidded and the vehicles collided."

 The State Police say that the driver of the van was a 65 man from Gouldsboro named Clarence Hardwick. They say Hardwich sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Northern Light EMMC for treatment. The tractor-trailer operator, 41-year-old Aaron Small of Oxford was not hurt. 

Those traveling along Route 1 in Hancock are being detoured around the scene of an accident that's blocking the roadway at this hour.

According to the Maine State Police, it might be some time before the road opens back up again.

"A head-on crash on Route 1 in Hancock has shut down the road near the town line of Sullivan. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek an alternate route. Hancock County Deputies are re-routing traffic in the vicinity of Tideway in Hancock.
