A bad accident had traffic along one major road in Bangor backed up for a while Tuesday afternoon.
It was just about 3:15 PM when the City of Bangor issued an alert for motorists to avoid the area of Broadway and the Pushaw Road in Bangor.
"Traffic is backed up and is likely to be for an undetermined period of time. Emergency personnel have called for a full road closure. Please consider an alternate route if you normally travel near this intersection. Please exercise caution and patience while emergency crews deal with the accident."
According to Sgt. Wade Betters from the Bangor Police Department, officers had to briefly shut down that portion of Broadway until the vehicles involved were removed.
"A vehicle driven by a 74 yr old Glenburn woman, made a left turn onto Broadway-from Pushaw Road. That vehicle (failed to yield right of way) to outbound traffic on Broadway. An outbound vehicle, driven by a 62 yr old Old Town woman collided with the left turning vehicle. The Glenburn woman sustained injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. The Old Town woman and her adult (and only) passenger were treated at the scene by EMTs from Bangor Fire. "
Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene.
The road was reopened shortly after 4:30 PM.
