A 19-year-old Glenburn man was arrested Sunday following what police are describing as a "serious domestic assault incident."

According to the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office, the incident occurred just after 6:30 on Sunday evening. Authorities were called after witnesses reported seeing a man assault a woman on Pushaw Road in Glenburn. When they arrived, they found that Ethan Herbert had allegedly attacked a female family member with a hatchet, after allegedly stabbing the woman.

"During the investigation, it was determined that Ethan Herbert, 19 of Glenburn, had struck the 59-year-old female family member with a hatchet....Herbert fled the scene before deputies arrived, but was apprehended a short time later on the roadway."

The injured female was immediately taken to a nearby hospital by EMS on the scene for treatment of her wounds.

We're told she is still in the hospital at this time, recovering from serious injuries she sustained during the attack.

Herbert faces charges of Attempted Murder, along with a count each of Domestic Violence, "Aggravated," and "Elevated."
