Let me start by saying, as a parent, I'm in the same boat as a lot of Mainers, and for that matter, a lot of Americans right now when it comes to trying to weigh the pros and cons of every decision being made about this upcoming school year.

I've heard both sides of the argument, and I respect people's right to make a decision based on what's going on in their lives, and what's available for information. And I ask this question, not to poke a bear, or stir a pot, but out of genuine curiosity for what other parents, grandparents and caretakers out there are thinking.

Whether we can agree on masking or not masking, reopening and how to go about that, or all of the many other issues surrounding the hottest topic of 2020, Coronavirus, I am confident that can we all agree on at least this: we just want kids to be okay, to have them be able to live and learn and study and not have there be a risk to their health, or inadvertently risk the health of others.

So as parents choose options of what to do with their children as far as school goes, I know there a lot of people wondering what will come of this fall's sports programs?

Which brings me to my poll question: Should schools hold fall sports this year?

I've heard from quite a few parents who have wondered about how that would work, logistically? Would student participants be able to effectively "social distance"? How would transportation work? How would the season be impacted if there were to be an another Covid spike?

There are almost as many questions as there are responses, and I don't know that there is one "right" answer out there.

What I do know is this year will be very different for kids, and despite what our own personal opinions on that the hows and whys and whats...lets do our best to support our students in whatever way we can as they journey through the rest of this now infamous year, 2020.
