Singer/Songwriter Don McLean has pleaded guilty to multiple Domestic Violence charges, as part of a plea deal.

McLean, who is most famous for the song 'American Pie,' is a resident of Camden who had lived a fairly quiet life in Maine until a woman accused him of multiple assaults and threats to strangle her in January. The woman is not being identified because she's an alleged domestic violence victim. The attacks allegedly took place in McLean's home.

The BDN reports, as part of a deferred disposition agreement, if McLean commits no other crimes in the next year, he will not serve any jail time and will be fined a total of $3,000. He is also required to be evaluated for possible domestic violence and anger management counseling.

The victim claimed that McLean held her head between his hands like a vise, repeatedly punched her in the arms and legs, and told her he wanted to strangle her. His attorney has said that McLean maintains the accusations are false, but he figured it was better just to resolve it now with no jail time.

McLean pleaded guilty to domestic violence assault and threatening, criminal mischief, and criminal restraint. Charges of domestic violence terrorizing and obstructing the report of a crime were dismissed.
