
Skowhegan Area Plans Week Full Of Family Fun As ‘Somerset Snowfest Scheduled’ To Start On February 14th
If you're looking for something fun to do with the whole family next week, Somerset County, Maine, is the place to be. And with mid-week snow expected, that fresh coating will fall just in time for the festivities, which kick off this Valentine's Day (Saturday, February 14th.)
The Somerset SnowFest started 7 years ago, in 2019, and according to their website, the event takes place in 3 different towns within the county: Skowhegan, Cannan and Madison.

"Coordinated by Main Street Skowhegan and Lake George Regional Park, Somerset SnowFest is a celebration of all things winter!"
"With activities including an ice-fishing derby, skating, the Ice Hole World Championships, and one of the Northeast’s only equestrian skijoring competition, this is a not-to-be-missed winter festival taking place in Somerset County, Maine, in the heart of the beautiful Kennebec River Valley."
According to this year's Somerset SnowFest Schedule of Events, activities will kick off Saturday an Ice Fishing Derby at 5:30 AM that runs until 3 PM.
The Winter Carnival at Lake George starts Saturday at 10 AM and runs until 4 PM.

The Kids Boxcar Races at will take place at 10, followed by the 'Anything But A Sled' Race at 11 AM.
The 'Ice Hole World Championship' will be happening from 11 AM to 4 PM. There will also be a "Yeti Hunt" and a children's Story Walk.
And that's just the first day!
Events that will take place throughout the week (which happens to coincide with February vacation) will include sledding at Coburn Park, horse drawn carriage rides, downhill skiing competitions, a 'Dress To Impress' parade, human slalom races, a huge Skowhegan Skijor competition on the following weekend.
Most of the activities this coming week are free, and simple require a registration so they know how many people to expect.

They will also have food and vendors on site, selling snacks and wares.
If you don't have winter gear, but still want to participate, they even have a gear lending program through the Skowhegan Outdoors Basecamp on Water Street, so you can still participate.
