A Maine State Police trooper was killed in an accident on Interstate 95 in Hampden Wednesday morning.

The crash took place south of the Coldbrook Road overpass near Exit 180, just after 7:30 a.m., according to a news release from Maine Public Safety Spokesman Steve McCausland.

The trooper was out of his vehicle at the site of a disabled car along Interstate 95. Officials say the other vehicle involved was a tractor-trailer. The trooper, whose name has not been released, was rushed by ambulance to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, where he died.

The southbound lanes at the crash site have been closed and traffic is being diverted via the Coldbrook Road exit. State Police say more details, including the identity of the trooper, will likely be released in the afternoon.

We'll update this story as more details become available.
