The DAV of Maine And The NE Patriots Foundation Helping Veterans
Veterans from Bangor to Blue Hill, and places in between, got a well deserved and much appreciated hand today. The New England Patriots Foundation reached out to Veterans group across the state late last week, asking for help getting food to vets. The organization wanted to make sure Veterans who might be in need of assistance or running low on supplies, in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, don't fall through the cracks. This week, the Foundation filled a truck with supplies and came up to Maine. On board; meal kits for veterans. Teaming up with Veterans groups like the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 6, the Foundation got to work, helping to serve those who've served. Boxes upon boxes of food were delivered to veterans and veterans pantries across the state.
DAV Maine Chapter 6 Commander, Craig Florey, says "The meal boxes come from the New England Patriots Foundation. They feed 2 people for 2 weeks. The DAV is just the middle man." While vets would have typically needed to register online for this benefit, Florey explained that he had alerted the folks at the Patriots Foundation that for many vets in our state, getting online can be tricky. The boxes the DAV got today were handed out to local veterans living right in Eastern Maine, Florey said. "The ones we handed out are veterans that we deal with, either homeless, at risk, or can not get on the computer."
Florey the Foundation has already handed out 17,500 of these boxes, throughout Maine so far and are shooting for a goal of 4 million.
At the time of posting the article, Florey said he still had some food boxes left.
So if you are a Veteran or know one who could use this, please contact DAV Maine Chapter 6 Commander, Craig Florey at (207) 356-4427 so he can get the food to you ASAP!
