Like A Maine Fair On Steroids, The Big E Opens This Friday
Yes, it's a BIG one!
The Eastern States Exposition, otherwise known as The Big E, will open on Friday, September 17th, and then run through Sunday, October 3rd, on the fairgrounds in West Springfield, Massachusetts. It didn't take place last year because of the nasty COVID-19 pandemic, so organizers are saying that this year's event will be a big one, if not the biggest ever.
The BIG E is like a Maine fair on steroids, with a huge livestock area complete with competitions, a farmer's market open Thursday throughout Saturday, the biggest midway in New England along with many mechanical rides, a big building for every state in New England located on the Avenue Of States that's filled with products and food, and of course the shows and live concerts.
Some of the acts and concerts this year include, Jay & The Americans, Goo Goo Dolls, Billy Idol, Styx, Pat Benatar, Little Texas, and Kashmir, a Led Zeppelin tribute band.
The Maine building on the Avenue of States is a replica of the original Maine statehouse, and it's loaded with products produced in Maine including freshly baked potatoes which are always a big hit at the Big E. One will normally find the long benches out in the front of the building filled with people eating Maine baked potatoes. Folks can also plan their Maine vacation there and check out some of the animals that reside in our state while sampling other products like blueberries, beer, lobster rolls, and salmon.
The Eastern States Exposition is about a 7-hour drive from Bangor, and one big piece of advice, if you plan on attending, is to get there early in the day! If you're early enough you can enjoy everything, but by noontime, the place is literally mobbed.
