U.S. News & World Report has come out with their yearly top high school's in the United States list while also ranking top 20 high school's in the State of Maine.

 

Overall, only one Bangor-area highschool ranked in the top 10 for the State of Maine, which was Orono High School ranking at #9.  Bangor High School, MDI High School and Belfast Area High School also cracked the top 20 at #12, #17, and #18, respectively.

  11. Kennebunk High School, Kennebunk
  12. Bangor High School, Bangor
  13. Casco Bay High School, Portland
  14. Brunswick High School, Brunswick
  15. York High School, York
  16. Mt. Ararat High School, Topsham
  17. Mt. Desert Island High School, Bar Harbor
  18. Belfast Area High School, Belfast
  19. Morse High School, Bath
  20. Buckfield Jr-Sr High School, Buckfield

What was looked at for criteria to become the best in the state and nationwide?

  • College Readiness
  • Math and Reading Proficiency
  • Math and Reading Performance
  • Underserved Student Performance
  • College Curriculum Breadth
  • Graduation Rate

Each category had a specific percentage that lead to how it ranked against other schools, with college readiness making up 30% of it's ranking where 12th graders who took and passed at least one advanced placement or IB exam.
