Three Arrested In Connection With Downeast Heroin Overdoses
Three people have been arrested in connection with three heroin overdoses in Washington County taking place within 30 minutes of each other on Friday.
Jon Wright, 50, of Machiasport was taken into custody on a previously issued MDEA arrest warrant charging him with unlawful trafficking in heroin. Also arrested was Leanza Boney, 20, of Harlem, NY, for unlawful trafficking in Heroin. Jesse Michaud, 38, of Machias was also taken into custody for violation of bail conditions.
Police arrested the trio after searching Wright's home and seized 12 grams of crack cocaine, three grams of suspected heroin and $934 in cash.
The arrests came as the result of the investigation into a spate of reported overdoses on Friday -- two overdoses in Machiasport and a third in East Machias. The victims were two men and a woman, all in their 30s. Crews used used Narcan to revive the trio and two of them were hospitalized overnight and were released on Saturday.
A fourth overdose in the Hancock County town of Franklin also took place about two hours after the Washington County incidents and all are suspected to have a connection to the three arrests.
On Friday, police issued a public warning about tainted heroin in the area.
The suspects were taken to the Washington County Jail.
Other heroin overdoses were reported in Bangor, Brewer, Corinth, Guilford, Hartland and Hermon, although drug agents suspect they are not tied to the overdoses in Washington County. None of the overdoses have been fatal.
