Tom Petty Reportedly Found Unconscious in Cardiac Arrest
Tom Petty was reportedly found unconscious in full cardiac arrest last night.
According to TMZ, the 66-year-old Petty was rushed to the hospital after he was found unconscious, not breathing and in full cardiac arrest at his Malibu home.
UPDATE: TMZ is now reporting that "after Petty got to the hospital, he had no brain activity and a decision was made to pull life support."
TMZ reports that EMTs found Petty with a pulse and then took him to the UCLA Santa Monica Hospital. Reportedly, Petty was then put on life support. His condition is unknown, but was listed as critical from the time he was discovered.
There has been no official word from Petty's camp on this news, but according to TMZ, sources close to Petty were “clearly upset.”
Petty's most recent tour, which he hinted could be his last big one, wrapped up just last week in California with three concerts at the Hollywood Bowl. The tour launched back in April and was being touted as Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers' 40th-anniversary tour.
While band leader Petty suggested that the run could end up being the band's last major tour of that size, guitarist Mike Campbell was dubious. “Tom is really happy," he said before the tour started. "The band is playing great. I think we’re sounding better than we’ve ever sounded, and we’re inspired. It’s very exciting for us. And the band is really rising to the occasion and everybody is in a great place right now. I think we can keep going for a while.”
