It may be an old-school hobby but the ones who love it are pretty hardcore. We are talking model trains. Some people spend thousands of dollars carefully creating these miniature models that include much more than a wee little train. People create landscapes for the little trains to move around in. It's the incredible eye for detail that can make these landscapes come to life and delight young and old alike.
If you are a fan of this hobby or know some little one who could be, you should plan on stopping by Brewer for this annual model railroad event.
Coming Saturday, November 20 is a day dedicated to model trains. The event is taking place at Jeff's Catering & Event Center from 10 AM to 3 PM and is being put on by the Eastern Maine Model Railroad Club. The club is based out of East Orland and serves as a social club of Down East Maine as well as model builders who are focused on creating a fictional railroad called Katahdin Valley Railroad Co. The model uses real-life references, including Bangor Yard, Belfast, and Dexter.
While you may think this is a hobby and interest just for older folks you might be surprised at the wonder your little one may have at the sight of these models. Admission is $4 for those ages 12 and up while those under 12 can get in for free.
