Bangor Could See New Sandwich Shop Open In Old ‘Subway’ Building On State Street
Change is in the air, in the landscape at the top of State Street in Bangor.
First, in April, residents learned that the long-time Family Dollar building at 89 State Street was going to close and the building would be put up for sale.

Next, in June, demolition started on the Arlan A. Baillie building, the landmark addition to the All Souls Church that sits atop the State Street hill.

And now another long-time business in the area is being replaced by something new.
For over 20 years, a 'Subway' sandwich shop operated out of a small storefront at 120 State Street in Bangor, right at the top of the hill.

The shop permanently closed within the last year or so, as the 'Subway' franchise shut down sandwich shops nationwide. But there's promise that someone is making plans to breathe some new life into that little old building.
According to the City of Bangor, a new sandwich shop is in the works to replace the old one. Appropriately enough, the plan is to call it 'Top Of The Hill Subs.'

Officials with the city say the inspection has been performed and a certificate of occupancy is pending.

Another sub-maker located along State Street, Legacy Sandwich Shop, closed last year due to health code violations.

So the prospect of another shop opening up in the neighborhood would offer folks in that area of Bangor another lunch option.
There's no word yet on when the new shop will open, but we will update you on that when those details become available.
