Around 1:30 a.m. on Friday. a PanAm train derailed pretty much on the
Etna - Newport town line. WABI - TV5 reports there were no injuries. There were no hazardous materials compromised, and traffic was not affected by the accident.

From the Station Road in Etna, to the Palmer Road in Newport, cars were off their rails. Emergency crews were called in from both Etna and Newport, as well as state Emergency Management Agency and Department of Environmental Protection to help deal with the accident.

At this time, no one knows exactly what caused the derailment, but PanAm railways is looking into the matter. We will provide any updates if the investigation yields any immediate results.
