History was made this past Wednesday when the popular train that usually travels between Boston and Brunswick cruised through towns like Newcastle and Thomaston while making it's way to Rockland Station.

Travelers and officials are hoping that weekend service all the way to Rockland will begin this coming spring.  So, a test of the track was made this past Wednesday, August 14th.

Folks from the Maine Department of Transportation and the Northern New England Passenger Rail Authority took the 56 mile-long trip to determine both the time of the trip and the shape of the track itself that is normally used for freight service.

Here's hoping that we can soon make the trip to Rockland to take the Amtrak Downeaster!
