Yesterday, things got a little heated at the Androscoggin Mill in Jay.

Rick Pratt of Richard Carrier Trucking was quick on the cell phone yesterday and took this video footage while waiting in line with a full load of softwood.

The massive explosion was the result of a digestive boiler blowing up. Softwood, chemicals, and heat within this particular type of boiler produces the pulp that the mill is known for.  Apparently things got a little too hot and compressed, causing it to blow.

Luckily, none of the people that work at the mill were in the immediate vicinity at the time of the explosion, and miraculously there were no injuries.

Listen as the truckers waiting in line react to the explosion, and then count the seconds until the nasty wet pulp loaded with chemicals starts hitting the windshield.  Scary stuff.
