WATCH: February 27th Storm Batters Maine Coast

Videos of Thursday's storm in Jonesport-Beals, including two boats that fell victim to the wind and waves, and at Acadia's Thunder Hole show the power of nature along Maine's coast.

It's easy for those of us who live inland to discount how badly Maine's coastline is affected by a storm like the one we had on Thursday. We hear the forecast and think those on the coast have it easy because they're only going to get rain. But the winds on the coast were gusting in the 50 mph range during Thursday's storm, along with torrential rains, which spells trouble for the locals.

A video posted by 'A Libby Life' on YouTube shows boats rocking on the waves, and road signs struggling to stay upright. But it's the fate of a boat called 'Bossy Lady' that brings the reality of the damage home. At the beginning of the video, you can see the bow and stern, but the middle appears to be swamped. A little later, the videographer returns to the mooring, where only the tip of the bow is visible. Thanks to Carolyn Libby for pointing out to us another boat lost to the storm. You can see waves breaking against the almost-totally-submerged boat about :28 seconds into her video, on the right-hand side of the screen.

At Acadia National Park, the area near Thunder Hole was an active spot, with some some impressive splashes. Watch the waves building before they hit the shore. Not a good day to stand on the rocks for selfies.
